Having an author visit your school is an amazing way to promote reading, and school librarians are always talking to each other on online forums, asking each other who is the best to bring into schools. School Librarians have used authors, illustrators, journalists, and other professionals to bring reading and literacy right into the centre of the curriculum. School librarians, with their breadth of experience and knowledge, are often the ones whom teachers consult when they are trying to bring someone in to enhance the curriculum. Sometimes preparing for an author visit can involve a lot of project work beforehand, as one school librarian explains.
Pupils love author visits, and always respond well. Some authors have even had Skype sessions with schools, so that technology is combined with books in a new and exciting way! See here for a link to author Tommy Donbavand’s blog, where he is talking about running a Skype session with a school in Kent.
